After installing Decide For Me, you'll probably want to create a new shortcut that runs it instead of running it directly. That way, you can do things like "Hey Siri, pick a board game" or "Hey Siri, what should I snack on?"

The process of setting this up is simple:

  • Create a new shortcut.

  • Add a Text action containing the name you plan to use for the shortcut (e.g. Pick a board game). What you enter here decides which choices are loaded. Any variation will cause a different set of choices to be loaded.

  • Add a Run Shortcut action that will run Decide For Me using the Text action as input.

  • That's it! Name your shortcut whatever you chose to use in your Text action.

When you run Decide For Me (or your newly created shortcut) for the first time, you will begin the setup process.

  • First, you'll choose a language. This will only ever happen once.

  • After that, set the cooldown mode you want to use. You can change this from Main Menu > Settings later.

    • Decisions made

Default. This will prevent the same decision from appearing within the next X decisions made

    • Days since

Won't pick the same item within the next X days

    • Hours since

Won't pick the same item within the next X hours

    • Minutes since

Won't pick the same item within the next X minutes

  • Now set the cooldown delay you want to use. This determines when cooldowns can be adjusted after accepting a new decision. You can change this, too, from Main Menu > Settings later.

    • No delay

Default. Previous decisions on cooldown will be adjusted immediately

    • Once per day

Previous decisions will have their cooldown adjusted once daily

    • Once per hour

Previous decisions will have their cooldown adjusted once hourly

    • Once per minute

Previous decisions will have their cooldown adjusted once per minute

  • Now you're brought to the main menu.

  • Choose Edit Choices.

    • Enter each choice on a new line.

    • By default, the last accepted decision will be immediately available to be chosen again.

You can modify this behavior by adding a | followed by a number to the end of the choice you want to modify.

      For example:

      Seasons|3
      Barenpark
      Iquazú|3
      Parks|3
If Seasons is chosen, it will not be picked again for the next 3 decisions or amount of time passed, based on the cooldown mode you chose earlier. Barenpark can be chosen every run.

Cooldown will begin only when you tap Accept Decision.

At this time, there is no way to add weight to choices (i.e. they all have the same likelihood of be chosen.) As a workaround, add multiple entries of the same choice with some variation (e.g. Honga A, Honga B, etc.)
